After Vacation Blog Update

So I’m finally back somewhere with a stable internet connection and I can finally get back to reviewing books. I read and finished a lot of books while I was away. By a lot, I mean 6.

I finished:

  1. Gardens of the Moon by Steven Erikson
  2. Three Dark Crowns by Kendare Blake
  3. One Dark Throne by Kendare Blake
  4. A Study in Scarlet by Arthur Conan Doyle
  5. The Gods of Pegana by Lord Dunsany
  6. Melokai by Rosalyn Kelly

I also received three books from authors for review. I received them as part of the TBRindr initiative which you can find on The Weatherwax Report. It basically matches self-published authors and reviewers for book reviews. I’ll be reading those books next and will be reviewing those after I finish my reviews for the 6 books I finished.

While at my grandparents’ house, I also found an old copy of Robert Jordan’s The Path of Daggers. Strangely enough, it’s the only WoT book there. I’m still excited to find it and took it home with me though, since I already have the first seven books. Another exciting thing is that I went to a used bookstore and picked up 6 books for 215 php (About 4.12 usd). Some books even sold for 15 php (0.29 usd)! I was really excited because those 6 books cost half of a new mass market paperback or sometimes a YA trade paperback. Not knowing a lot about old sff, I mostly picked up books by looking at the publisher on the spine then reading the synopsis. Most of the books were in between romance mass markets so knowing about SFF publishers and imprints helped me search.

I got:

  1. The Magestone (Secrets of the Witchworld) by Andre Norton & Mary H. Schaub
  2. Steel and Stone (Dragonlance Saga) by Ellen Porath
  3. Pawn of Prophecy (The Belgariad) by David Eddings
  4. The Elfstones of Shannara by Terry Brooks
  5. Revelation Space by Alastair Reynolds
  6. The Draco Tavern by Larry Niven

To be honest, I could spend an entire day in there. Instead, I had to spend about 15 minutes stacking books in my arms while my sister pesters me to hurry up. I’m really hoping for another opportunity to make a used bookstore haul though. Some old books can be hard to find at other bookstores and rather expensive to buy in ebook format.

That’s all for this update! I’ll also be posting my reviews very soon.
